LMT, the current owner of Salon Austin, has been a licensed cosmetologist since April 1969. He worked as a hair stylist in Kansas his home State until 1982.
T.J. has taken various classes in hair cutting technique, varying from razor haircut techniques taught in the style of Pivot Point, including precision cutting with shears. These styles of cutting include slide cutting, chipping and point cutting. His hair cutting uses both razor and shear cutting at its best. His men’s hair cut styles include texture shears, clipper cutting razor haircuts and shear cutting.
In Kansas he was also employed as an instructor for three of the cosmetology schools where he taught hair color techniques. He was a member of the National Cosmetology Association and was in attendance at conferences in Chicago, Dallas and Kansas City.
He took training in Redkin Amino Color hair color systems in Chicago 1975 and was in Saint Louis for the Premier of the Organic Color Systems September 2004 and later at the introduction of Organic Color Systems to Austin. He has been further trained in Framesi, Matrix Socolor, Colorly, Alfa Parf, Wella, and Joico Verocolor. He has learned several techniques of highligahting hair including foil Highlighting and Balayage techniques.
During his time in Kansas, he taught hair and wig care classes at the local YMCA, along with wigs and hair for local theatrical and dance companies.
T J had hobbies in Topeka KS, which included involvement with Topeka Ballet Company, where he was one of the founders. In addition to doing wigs, hair, assisting in set and costume design, he was a lead dancer and performer with Topeka Ballet.
In 1982 TJ moved to Houston Texas, where he worked also as a Hair stylist at Juan’s of Houston, Roberts' Hair Panache, Latitude Image Makers and Head First Hair Design. He did fashion shows and fashion photo shoots with the other staff of these two salons which were also test salons.
TJ joined the Texas branch of the National Cosmetology Association. He worked back stage for several Houston theater and dance companies doing wigs, hair, makeup set and costume design. He took continuing education both in cosmetology and a few courses at the Houston Community College. He helped to produce the benefit shows for the Texas Cosmetology Association for three years. He was also one of the performers in these benefit shows.
He was involved beyond hair and makeup with the Southwest Jazz Ballet Company as he was also one of the lead dancers with that company from 1983 to 1992. TJ also designed costumes and sets for Southwest Jazz Ballet company. He worked with the Junior company to teach them proper makeup and hairstyling for the stage.
In Houston TJ was a business partner in Accoutrement a customized costume and set design company. They built customized sets for individuals and performing groups. His business partner Christine Seubert is currently an artist living in the country and provides custom jewelry for Salon Austin.
Then he moved to Austin and started massage school at Austin School of Massage. He graduated March 1993 and is a licensed massage therapist. T.J. has taken several continuing education classes for various techniques of massage therapy and hair design. He worked at Santa Fe Hair Designs and A Better Angle, providing service as both massage therapist and cosmetologist until September of 1999. TJ took some specialized training in order to do depilatory waxing for men. He trained with the Arum Company to do spa therapies. Currently the owner of Salon Austin, he is working as a massage therapist as well as a Hair Stylist and the salon owner.
